My story

I make pottery near Glasgow, Scotland. My work is mostly stoneware, fired to high temperatures in both electric and gas kilns. Alongside functional domestic ware, I make sculptural pieces, and increasingly, bonsai pots.

Like my photography, pottery grew out of a need for something quieter, after years spent in more difficult, high-pressure work.

I'm not formally trained. What I know has come from workshops led by working master potters, and from years of simply paying attention to the material — what clay wants to do, and when to stop interfering with it. I was formerly Chairperson of the Scottish Potters Association, which gave me the chance to learn from, and alongside, some genuinely excellent makers.

My move into bonsai pots came naturally, out of owning and growing bonsai myself — I have a particular interest in antique pots, and that same respect for age, restraint, and craft carries through into the pieces I make now. I keep this side of things deliberately small.

I don't sell stock through this website. I do, occasionally, take on commissions — if you have something in mind, get in touch.
