Bonsai pots sit at the meeting point of two interests — pottery, which I've practised for many years, and bonsai itself, which I've only been growing and keeping for the last two. Japanese craft has always been something I admired, long before I started making pots for trees. I make these pots in small numbers, each one considered against the trees it might suit. It isn't a production line — just an extension of the same care I bring to the trees themselves.
I've been guided in this by Robert Porch, a highly respected bonsai master and authority on bonsai pots — his knowledge of proportion, glaze, and what a pot needs to do for a tree has shaped how I think about making them. Some of my pots are available through Robert Porch at Rising Sun Bonsai, alongside his trees and talks. Others are sold in person at bonsai shows across Scotland. I don't sell directly through this website — the gallery below is simply a record of the work.
